Authoritarianism is on the rise around the world, including in countries like Turkey, Poland, the Philippines and increasingly the United States where popularly elected leaders seek to undermine democratic institutions and strip away individual freedoms. Right-wing parties preaching xenophobic nationalism have won increasing support in France, Greece and the United Kingdom even if they have not won majority control of government. From the shocks of Brexit and Donald Trump’s presidential victory to mass protests in Poland to the Turkish purge to centrist Emmanuel Macron’s victory over the National Front in France, The GroundTruth Project is covering the “Rise of the Right” at a time of unprecedented challenge to the post-World War II order.
